Children Singing at the Celebration Service
Holy Trinity Institute in Moreira, Brazil Celebrates 62 Years!
This summer Holy Trinity Institute in Moreira celebrated their 62nd Anniversary! Since 1946, Holy Trinity Institute has assisted over 3000 people!
Here are a few interesting facts about HTI that we felt you readers would enjoy:
WHEN WAS HOLY TRINITY INSTITUTE ESTABLISHED?
In 1933, a German missionary, Pastor August Gedrat, and his wife had a heart for the orphaned children of Moreira. They began taking them into their home and treating them as their own. The number of children kept increasing and their home eventually became too small for all of their "children." A new house was built for the teenagers. It only kept increasing and a new structure was built.
In 1946, the home was legally recognized by law as a safe haven for children and named Holy Trinity Institute.
HTI has provided food for the body and soul, shelter, education and a safe, loving environment for children, teens, adults and seniors in Moreira since that time. Although HTI is often referred to as an "orphanage" it functions more like foster care, taking care of over 70 children who mostly come from abusive family backgrounds. Since 1946, HTI has assisted over 3,000 people! Without this place, the children would be homeless, living on the streets, and fortunate if they survive into adulthood.
WHAT IS THE MONTHLY COST OF OPERATION FOR THE INSTITUTE?
Our monthly cost of operation is around $27,000 US dollars which includes food, clothing, cleaning supplies, medicine, hygiene products, school supplies and books, health care, dental treatments, building and vehicle maintenance, farming structures and upkeep, computer maintenance, payroll of the workers, teachers, nurses and trainees, transportation, etc. This is all for the children and people that live there (120) plus around 30 more children who live near and attend the school.
WHAT IS THE AVERAGE COST PER CHILD IN THE INSTITUTE?
The average cost per child is about $300 per month. It is important to understand that a sponsor is not responsible for the whole support of a child at the home, since the children will have other sponsors as well. Through the Brazil Mission Society Sponsorship Program, many people become sponsors through contributions of as little as $30.00 per month.
"In 1984 when I was 9 years old, I came to live at HTI because my parents were not able to support me or my 5 younger siblings. I worked and studied at the home. In 1992 I married Marcos Sperb, a hard worker at the Home. When my son was born, I stopped studying. The HTI director and staff encouraged me and made it possible to continue studying. When I graduated from High School in 1999, I was given the opportunity to teach at the Institute's School. I worked hard and continued studying until I received the support of Godparents and Donors to attend Teaching College. My second child was born in 2001, and God continued to open doors through HTI so I could complete my degree. In 2006, I graduated and now have a career and a beautiful family who is very proud of their mom. I am very thankful to God for providing the opportunity to be a part of Holy Trinity Institute and raise my children in such a loving, Christ-focused environment." - Roseli Sperb, Past resident of HTI

Abrasse Daycare Project
Pictured here are just 2 of the many children who live near the garbage dump. The families collect garbage, use what they find and sell what they can in order to live. While the parents are collecting garbage, the children are left alone on the streets.
With the help of the Brazil Mission Society, land was purchased and a Day Care Center is being constructed to take care of these children.
